Learning Intention of the Week – Landscape Art

Today we focused on how to use colour, texture, and creative techniques to represent landscapes in art. We painted two separate landscapes using acrylic paint. We intentionally made one with lighter colour choices and one with darker tones to explore contrast. We then cut our paintings into wavy strips and wove them together to create a new, combined landscape inspired by the patterns and movement seen in rural Alberta fields. We also learned how to use layering and weaving adds visual interest and texture. To complete our work, we created and added small houses, and designed each section of land with intention, thinking carefully about patterns, colours, and details to make our landscapes unique and meaningful.

 April 10, 2026
We had an exciting week at TRS! It was filled with dancing, poetry, and fun. If you have unsold coupon booklets, please return them on Monday as well as any money you raised through sales

Highlights of the Week:
  • ELAL – Students continue to practice using literary devices by creating an advertisement for a chosen object or experience. They also were introduced to writing poetry using a free verse style.
  • Math – We reviewed fractions using manipulatives and built equivalent fractions. Students were then introduced to both mixed and improper fractions where they represented them using circle or bar fractions. They also learned how to convert fractions from mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa
  • Science –
    • Grade 6 – we started our new unit this week, Earth Systems. Students learned the difference between biotic and abiotic factors within an ecosystem. They worked in small groups to learn about the main ecosystems throughout the world. Each group gave a brief overview of their ecosystem to the class, so students can dive deeper into a chosen ecosystem next week.
    • Grade 5 – students continued their weather instrument project. They spent time with their groups building their chosen weather instruments. Students wrote a paragraph to accompany their model to show their understanding of how it works.
  • Social –
    • Grade 5 – We learned about perspective and how people can have different perspectives on the same issues or events. Students then analyzed an event/issue that occurred in both the past and present through different perspectives to see how we can learn from history
    • Grade 6 – They completed a check-in that consisted of multiple choice and short answer stylesStudents were then introduced to our next unit which will be focusing on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Learning Intention of the Week – Sound Kreations
Students learned to express themselves through movement and dance while building confidence and creativity. They explored the history and cultural significance of Hip-Hop and how it connects to music and trends today. Students developed their physical literacy by practicing coordination, rhythm, and body control. They learned to collaborate, take creative risks, and share their ideas respectfully as part of a dance community. Shout out to our instructor Keston for the positive vibes and fun week!
