Learning Intention of the Week – Spring Equinox Representation

Students created an image today that represented the transition from Winter to Spring in time for Spring Equinox next week. This transition also ties into our read aloud, Barren Grounds as the main characters are fighting to bring the Green Time back to the Misewa community who have been stuck in the White Time for several years. Students created their image within a circle by intertwining images that represented both spring and winter

Learning Intention of the Week – Persuasive Writing

Students were immersed in a persuasive writing challenge this week through a dramatic classroom simulation. When they arrived on Thursday morning, they discovered that the classroom library, comfy chairs, and iPads had been “removed.” The furniture was flipped over and piled together, surrounded by caution tape with an official notice explaining the items were no longer available. This surprise scenario created a real-world problem for students to respond to. Using their passion and creativity, students planned and wrote persuasive essays arguing why these important classroom resources should be returned. They focused on organizing their ideas into a clear introduction, three supporting body paragraphs, and a strong concluding paragraph while providing reasons and details to convince their audience. The activity encouraged students to think critically, take a clear position, and use persuasive techniques to make their voices heard. Students will refine their essays and type up good copies next week.
