Learning Intention of the Week – STEM Science - Ozobots

This week, students were introduced to Ozobotssmall programmable robots that help us learn about coding and problem-solving. They learned what Ozobots are and how different colour codes control the robot’s movements, such as turning, speeding up, and stopping. Students were then given a challenge to guide their Ozobot around a maze with intersections and reach a specific target. To succeed, they had to choose and apply the correct codes, testing and revising their plans as needed.

 January 23, 2026

Another good week at TRS! Grade 6 listened to a presentation about Branton school and their late immersion program. Students were able to ask many questions about their school.

Highlights of the Week:

  • ELAL – TRS students in K-6 participated in a story writing activity where they were given a picture prompt to write a story about. From here, we will complete another writing task in a couple of months so we can track students' overall progress. Students were also introduced to comparative writing this week. We looked at the difference between facts and opinions and completed a few Venn Diagrams comparing various topics as a class. After, students completed a mini essay on one of the comparisons.
  • Read Aloud – we continue to dive deeper into our novel. Students worked through a journal page related to the characters’ gifts and their own personal gifts. We talked about how gifts can be given to you or a trait or quality that someone possesses.
  • Math – We practiced multiplication word problems this week and wrote a check-in. The next unit will be division.
  • Science –
    • Grade 5 – students built and tested their kites this week. They applied their knowledge of forces of flight to better their designs.
    • Grade 6 – students had the opportunity to reflect on their spaghetti bridges this week. They also worked through various stations related to external forces.
  • Social –
    • Grade 5 – We learned about advancement in agriculture and played a board game based on The Silk Road.
    • Grade 6 – Students created a visual journal page titled “Democracy Then and Now” where they compared an aspect of democracy in the past to what they know about it now.

How you can support at home:

  • Homework – we sent home a practice multiplication check-in and a Venn diagram for comparative writing
  • Math – Work on multiplication facts to support division.
  • ELAL – Reading out loud with your child and having them make connections to themselves, different texts they’ve read, and world events.

Learning Intention of the Week – Family Friday

We participated in Family Friday today where students worked in mixed-grade groups alongside different teachers. Students are becoming more familiar with their groupings. Some of the activities were clay work, origami, lantern design, art, Ozobots, and more. While the projects vary, the goal is the same: learning to share ideas, work together, and support one another. Family Friday helps students build relationships, creativity, and teamwork skills in a meaningful way.
