Learning Intention of Week: Instructional Writing – How to Carve a Pumpkin

Today we practiced writing clear and organized hamburger paragraphs that give step-by-step instructions. Students practiced this skill by writing their own “how-to” paragraphs on carving a pumpkin. After writing, we followed the students’ instructions to see if their steps were clear enough to successfully create a jack-o’-lantern. This hands-on activity helped students understand the importance of using sequence words, details, and clear instructions in their writing.

Learning Intention of Week: Terry Fox Learning

This week, students spent time learning about the legacy of Terry Fox. They designed a shoe based off symbols and colours that represent Terry. We had discussions about fitting words and symbols surrounding hope, never giving up, and legacies. Students also watched several videos to inform their understanding of who Terry Fox was and why he is such a Canadian icon.
