September 26, 2025

Happy Equinox week! What a great and full week at at Jube School. The students reflected on all or activities today and were shocked at how much we got accomplished!

Highlights of the Week:

  • Jube School!

How you can support at home:

  • Homework – Students been asked to share with you what their favourite activity at Jube school was. Some students are working on handing in last week's homework and have been gently reminded to bring it next week.
  • Math – work on basic math facts. Explore positive and negative numbers found in everyday life (temperature, games & sports, money)
  • ELAL – practice writing simple, compound and complex sentences

Important Dates:

  • No School – Sept 29/30
  • Terry Fox Run – Oct 3
  • Class Photos – Oct 9
  • No School – Oct 13
  • Grade 6 Immunization Oct 24
Learning Intention of the Week: Jube School During our week at Jube School at the Jubilee Centre, we are exploring our essential question: “How do we use creativity and expression to tell stories, share identity, and inspire change?” We will engage in activities such as learning about lighting design, discovering the art of clowning, and practicing script writing to experience how different forms of artistic expression can shape storytelling and connect with others.

 September 19, 2025

We had another awesome week at TRS. We are taking advantage of the weather and trying to get outdoors as much as possible!

Highlights of the Week:

  • ELAL – Students continued to work on sentences this week. They looked at the different purpose's sentences have; declarative, interrogative, imperative and exclamatory. We looked at simple sentences and what a subject and predicate are. Students also practiced combining simple sentences to make compound sentences using conjunctions.
  • Math – This week we worked with coordinate grids plotting points and describing their location and movement. Students practiced translating shapes to different coordinate pairs on the grid.
  • Science – this week students continued looking at the Particle Model of Matter and worked through a “melting ice” experiment. Students explored how temperature increases or decreases movement and changes the arrangement of particles.
  • Social -
    • 5: We started a research project focusing on different ancient civilizations. Students are guided by a research booklet to fill in and will be sharing their findings with each other at a later date.

    • 6: Continuing our work on democracy we learned about municipal elections. This will continue leading up to election day where we will take part in Student Vote where we will cast our own ballots along with hundreds of other schools.

How you can support at home:

  • HomeworkStudents will bring home weekly homework on Thursdays, taking about 15–20 minutes. It will usually focus on Math or ELAL, with the occasional unfinished classroom task. Homework won’t be graded but will be checked for completion to help students build responsibility and prepare for junior high.
  • Math – work on basic math facts and finish mystery picture plotting homework.
  • ELAL – practice writing compound sentences using conjunctions.

Important Dates:

  • Jube School – Sept 22 – 26
  • Apple Order Pick-up – Sept 23
  • School Council Meeting – Sept 25
  • Orange Shirt Day – Sept 26
  • No School – Sept 29/30
  • Terry Fox Run – Oct 3
  • Class Photos – Oct 9

Reminders:

  • We will be away at Jube School all next week. Please ensure your child has a lunch, water bottle, indoor and outdoor shoes. We will be leaving promptly after the morning bell and returning before the end of day bell.
  • Snack/Lunch – We are encouraging students to bring grab and go snacks to avoid eating their lunches during snack time if possible. Please pack extra snacks for Fridays as the days are extended this year.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Shoes – Please send your child with indoor & outdoor shoes to keep the school clean. We encourage students to wear shoes that can be worn during physical activities both in and outdoors.
  • Weather – We will continue to have learning opportunities outside, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
  • Online Forms – Please complete the demographic, citizenship and authorization forms.

Learning Intention of Week: Math – Coordinate Geometry

This week, students explored coordinate geometry through quadrant 1. They reviewed what the x and y axis are and how to plot coordinate pairs. Students worked through various tasks to help with plotting and describing movement of points within the grid through translations. Students created mystery pictures on a coordinate grid and learned a new math game, Pokemon Grid Quest to practice their skills.

We will continue to build on these skills by introducing the cartesian plane and all 4 quadrants in the coming weeks. Students will learn about translating, reflecting, and rotating shapes on the cartesian plane.

 September 12, 2025

It was so nice to see so many families at the corn roast last night! What a lovely way to celebrate the beginning of the school year.

Highlights of the Week:

  • ELAL – This week we focused on sentence writing and how to stretch our sentences using the various parts of speech coupled with the five W’s and H. Students also practiced this skill by completing some silly Mad Libs. We continued our reading Fish in a Tree this week and were able to do a hands-on activity from the novel where students had to guess what was in various mystery boxes.
  • Math – Students created a mandala that used rotational symmetry, learned about congruent shapes, and completed a first mini check-in about symmetry.
  • Science – both grade 5 and 6 students were introduced to our first unit, Matter. They participated in a simulation representing the particles of matter and learned about the steps of the Scientific Method. We did an experiment using hot and cold water mixed with food colouring to see how temperature affects the movement of particles.
  • Social -
    • 5: We created a visual journal page about different governments and who makes decisions. (one person, few, or many)
    • 6: Learned about the three different levels of government in Canada and what they are responsible for.
  • Art – Most students have finished their self-portraits and we have now moved on to a new project for Art Cards.

  • How you can support at home:
    • Math – work on basic math facts (addition/subtraction -- skip counting from various starting points)
    • ELAL – Practice adding details and stretching sentences using the 5 W’s and H. Continue reading at home.

Important Dates:

  • Jube School Forms Due – Sept 17
  • Jube School – Sept 2226
  • Apple Order Pick-up – Sept 23
  • School Council Meeting – Sept 25
  • Orange Shirt Day – Sept 26
  • No School – Sept 29/30
  • Terry Fox – Oct 3

Reminders:

  • Jube School – Forms have been sent home and need to be returned as soon as possible. We are still looking for more volunteers. Please reach out if you are able to join.
  • Snack/LunchWe are encouraging students to bring grab and go snacks to avoid eating their lunches during snack time if possible.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Shoes – Please send your child with indoor & outdoor shoes to keep the school clean. We encourage students to wear shoes that can be worn during physical activities both in and outdoors.

  • Online Forms – Please complete the demographic, citizenship and authorization forms.

Learning Intention of Week: Journaling – Up Down All Around

We are learning to develop our observational journaling skills by recording detailed sensory information. We practiced this by dividing our visual journal page into four sections and documenting what we saw, heard, felt, and noticed in all directions — in front, above, below, to the left, and to the right.

We will continue to add different journaling techniques to our repertoire throughout the school year. This will prepare us for our Open Minds field trip and other land-based learning in our community.
